Boston may have come out with a win over Baltimore on Tuesday, but the Orioles pulled off a surprise triple play against the Red Sox that caused confusion for fans and players alike.
With the Red Sox leading, 5-2, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit what appeared to be a routine pop fly into short left field. Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy called for the ball, but unexpectedly dropped it. The infield fly rule was not called, and Hardy threw to second, where second baseman Jonathan Schoop tagged Mitch Moreland. He then stepped on the base forcing Dustin Pedroia, who hadn’t moved from first base, out.
