Watch Mookie Betts throw out this Astros runner by a mile

Mookie Betts was all the difference in Friday night’s game against the Houston Astros.

With the Red Sox up 1-0 in the sixth inning, Astros shortstop Carlos Correa lined a single to right field. George Springer, who was on second base, attempted to score on Correa’s hit. Poor decision.

After fielding Correa’s hit on one bounce, Betts unloaded a laser throw, which MLB’s Statcast clocked at 96.8 miles per hour. The play at home wasn’t particularly close.

“I was running behind home, and by the time I turned around, the ball was already skipping to [catcher Christian] Vazquez,” Drew Pomeranz, who was pitching at time, told The Boston Globe after the game.
