Red Sox legend David Ortiz has four long years to wait until he’s on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. He has one more year to root for Edgar Martinez, who received 70.4 percent of the vote on Wednesday.
Until recently, Martinez struggled to gain momentum due to his position while, strangely, voters have ignored the poor defensive ability of Hall of Famers such as Willie Stargell and Frank Thomas, the latter of whom spent 58 percent of his career as a designated hitter. Hall of Famer Paul Molitor spent 44 percent of his career at DH.
