The Red Sox will be without another top hitter in their lineup for the foreseeable future.
Triston Casas will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a left rib strain, the team announced Sunday.
Casas will head back to Boston later Sunday to be checked out by a specialist for further imaging, Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters. Cora added that he was “concerned” it could be a lengthy absence for Casas.
The first baseman appeared to suffer the injury during his first at-bat of Saturday’s win over the Pirates, wincing after fouling off a pitch.
