He won’t be dressed in uniform or making mid-game pitching decisions, but Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa will be consulting with the field staff as a member of the Red Sox front office in 2018.
La Russa was officially hired as a vice president and assistant to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski on Thursday morning.
The 73-year-old La Russa will assist Dombrowski in all areas of operations, “including player development and consultation with the major and minor league coaching staffs,” the Red Sox said in a press release. La Russa will speak to reporters on a conference call Thursday afternoon.
