ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Before Dustin Pedroia landed on the 15-day disabled list, an occasional off day for Pedroia left Brock Holt with a job he cherished.
After those games, when Holt played in Pedroia’s place at second base, he often began his comments to the media in apologetic fashion, admitting that no matter what he does in the veteran Pedroia’s place, that was No. 15’s position.
Filling in for the injured Pedroia last night, Holt took an all-out hack at a ball that ricocheted off his bat and hit him in the ultra-sensitive lower shin, but he refused to leave the game.
