Move over, Carmine. The Red Sox’ new head honcho has a yellow legal pad, and he’s not afraid to use it.

Last weekend, not two weeks since being let go by the Tigers, Dave Dombrowski sat home in suburban Detroit, his mind racing with possibilities. The 59-year-old executive was being courted by three teams, the Sox chief among them after principal owner John Henry asked him to fly to Chicago a few days earlier to meet chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon during a break in Major League Baseball’s quarterly owners meetings.

Dombrowski could sense things were beginning to get real.
