After a solid run of success, Martín Pérez got rocked for six runs over four innings with only a single strikeout in Friday’s game against the Nationals. Opposite Pérez was Max Scherzer, and six runs was more than enough for the righty as he cruised through six innings, tallying 11 strikeouts while leading the Nationals to a win. Prior to the second game of the three-game set, we learned Nathan Eovaldi would be placed on the IL. Chris Mazza was recalled from the alternate site to fill the open roster spot and got the start in Eovaldi’s place and was tagged for three runs over 2 1⁄3 innings pitched.
