It wasn’t supposed to be a quick series against the Marlins, but Mother Nature had other ideas limiting the Red Sox-Marlins series to only 14 innings over the holiday weekend. The good news is the Red Sox won both games that became official. In game one, Martín Pérez had a very Martín Pérez start, going five innings and allowing two runs with four strikeouts. Alex Verdugo launched a three-run homer to break a 2-2 tie through the rain, which then allowed the game to end after six innings with the Red Sox securing the win.
In the second game, the Red Sox got the win in a full nine innings after Nathan Eovaldi pitched well, going 5 1⁄3 innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk while allowing four hits.
