At the start of the season, the Red Sox were not exactly a stars and scrubs kind of roster like what we’ve seen from the Angels, as an example, but this was certainly a roster with clear strengths and weaknesses. In the latter category, it was very hard not to include the bullpen, which was a tightrope throughout last season’s postseason run and really didn’t see too much improvement in the offseason, at least not readily-apparently improvement. There was, to be fair, upside to be seen throughout the group, but wherever that upside resided it was largely obscured by question marks.
