The Red Sox’ early rotation injuries could benefit a few young pitchers

While it’s not ideal that Kutter Crawford, Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito are all unlikely to start the season on Boston’s major league roster, it gives a relatively young Red Sox team a chance to test its rotation depth, proving young pitchers with valuable big league experience during the “easiest” time of the year.

Last year, early injuries decimated a Red Sox rotation that was the shining jewel for Boston through the first few month of the season. This year, the injuries are providing opportunities that young pitchers would be otherwise unlikely to get with a rotation as deep as Boston’s.
