It appears Garrett Whitlock will likely need an internal bracing procedure on his right elbow, which will almost certainly sideline him for the rest of 2024 and possibly part of 2025.
Whitlock, a right-hander in his fourth year with the Red Sox, will meet with Dr. Jeff Dugas on Wednesday to finalize a plan. As of now, he told reporters he doesn’t suspect he’ll need Tommy John surgery, but that isn’t definitively the case.
The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey reported that the same surgeon and physical therapist who did his 2019 Tommy John will do this procedure.
