BOSTON -- Almost four decades have passed since the Red Sox and Reds squared off in the 1975 World Series, a dramatic Fall Classic matchup still widely considered one of the game's most compelling championship clashes.
On Tuesday night, alumni of that American League pennant-winning squad will be on hand at Fenway Park to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of that season before the Red Sox take on the Rays. Fred Lynn and Hall of Famers Carlton Fisk and Jim Rice are just a few of several former players expected to attend the pregame ceremony.
"At a time when baseball was said to be in a slump, the 1975 team and World Series brought baseball back in full luster," Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino said.
