There was one last mild surprise in Red Sox camp yesterday as the team set its Opening Day roster barring an injury or last-minute addition.
The team optioned Brandon Workman to Triple-A, opening the door for Marcus Walden — a 29-year-old career minor leaguer — to make the team as a long man in the bullpen. He joins left-handed reliever Bobby Poyner, who finished last season in Double-A, as the roster’s biggest surprises.
The Red Sox also reassigned Justin Haley to minor league camp, and placed Drew Pomeranz, Steven Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez on the 10-day disabled list.
