South Korean OF Kim plays in first major league game

BALTIMORE — South Korean outfielder Hyun Soo Kim ended a difficult week by getting his first start in the major leagues.

Kim played left field and batted ninth for the Orioles on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 28-year-old didn't see action in Baltimore's first four games.

Kim was a star in the Korean Baseball Organization before signing a two-year, $7 million contract with the Orioles during the offseason.

After Kim struggled during spring training, the Orioles wanted him to start the season in the minors. But Kim's contract enabled him to decline the assignment, which he did.
