Shane Victorino may not return to Red Sox when eligible

Shane Victorino may stay on the 15-day disabled list longer than the minimum time allotted, Red Sox manager John Farrell said on Tuesday.

Victorino strained his right hamstring while stealing second base last week against the Tampa Bay Rays and went on the DL retroactively to April 23, making him eligible to return next Friday, May 8. But the Red Sox will be in Toronto that weekend playing on an artificial surface that was recently renovated and has been a suspected cause for additional injuries.

"The reports coming out of teams that have gone through there have been, it’s a new turf, and it’s extremely long, the blades of artificial grass," Farrell said.
