Scott Boras: J.D. Martinez 'pleased' how talks with Red Sox, others are proceeding

The longstanding staredown between the Red Sox and free agent slugger J.D. Martinez shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

But in the wake of last night's story in The Athletic by Ken Rosenthal that depicted Martinez as growing disenchanted with the Red Sox and wanting to end the stalemate without signing, his agent today wanted to paint a different picture.

“J.D. is involved in multiple negotiations and is pleased with the participants and the good faith process,” said agent Scott Boras in a text this afternoon. “Suggestions otherwise are not accurate.”

Rosenthal's report cited sources that Martinez “is telling people that he is fed up with the Red Sox' inflexibility and would rather sign with another club.
