Sale lifted in 5th as pitch count climbs in G1

BOSTON -- Similar to the previous round, the Red Sox were hoping for length and effectiveness from their ace left-hander, with no guarantees for either.

Chris Sale, who missed time during the regular season for shoulder inflammation and was slowed in the playoffs with a stomach illness, exited his start Tuesday night with a lead, but also a high pitch count, leaving it up to the bullpen to account for the final 15 outs of Game 1 of the World Series between the Red Sox and Dodgers.
