NEW YORK — Red Sox and Yankees, at Yankee Stadium, battling for first place— and only four pitchers were used.
It wasn't your standard Red Sox-Yankees game Wednesday night.
Rick Porcello vs. CC Sabathia could’ve been the dream matchup for the Red Sox. Instead it ended in disaster, as Sabathia went one inning from completing his first shutout since 2011 and Porcello allowed six runs in six-plus innings.
The Yankees steamrolled the Red Sox, 8-0, in a game that took less than three hours to complete.
Pitching with his hardest fastball since 2012, averaging over 92 mph this season, Sabathia submitted a vintage performance against a Red Sox lineup that was stacked with right-handed batters.
