Samardzija didn't make it through the sixth inning, yielding five earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two, with the Red Sox scoring three in the second over the course of six two-out pitches to take control. Samardzija has lost all five of his August starts.
The White Sox added two in the ninth off of Jean Machi, but left the tying run on first when Carlos Sanchez fouled out to left to end the game.
