KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals have signed former Cy Young runner-up Chien-Ming Wang to a minor league contract.
The 35-year-old Wang, who had his best seasons with the New York Yankees, spent last season in Triple-A with the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners organizations. The right-hander went 6-11 with a 5.88 in 22 appearances, including 20 starts.
Wang's top year came in 2006, when he went 19-6 with a 3.63 ERA for the Yankees and was second in the AL Cy Young voting to unanimous winner Johan Santana. Wang won 19 games again the following season, giving him a major league-best 38 wins over the span.
