TORONTO -- The Red Sox are trying not to look too deeply into Rick Porcello’s spring training performance as they prepare for his season debut this afternoon against the Blue Jays.
If anything, they think they found a silver lining.
Yes, Porcello has lost his comfortable arm slot and had been forced to swallow the results of all his mislocated pitches, many of which might still be airborne in South Florida. And sure, he posted a 9.77 ERA while allowing four home runs in 15.2 innings of Grapefruit League action.
But the bright side, the Red Sox think, is that Porcello had another spring training in which he was just as bad.
