Rick Porcello- A Lot to Prove

Red Sox hurler Rick Porcello has engendered much controversy in his short career in Boston.

In the March 29 Herald Jason Mastrodonato wrote “Despite a poor start, Porcello’s spring training ERA has dropped from 12.00 to 9.76. He has allowed 29 hits in 15 1/3 innings. He quotes pitching coach Carl Willis: “Problem fixable. He’ll get there.” Manager John Farrell: “His success does not rely on velocity. He’s capable of better. The feeling is that he makes too many good pitches when he tries to throw his sinker too hard.

The 27-year-old New Jersey native has been a severe disappointment since arriving from the Tigers on December 11, 2014.
