BOSTON -- On Aug. 9, Rich Hill made his second start for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, a 35-year-old wearing the 25th uniform of his long professional career.

Less than seven weeks later, fans streaming out of Fenway Park are chanting the name of the Boston Red Sox left-hander: "Rich-ie Hill!
