Giancarlo Stanton trade talks between the Red Sox and the Marlins “may be heating up,” according to a report in Saturday's Miami Herald. “They're definitely in play,” said the major-league source about the Red Sox, according to the newspaper.
Given the Red Sox' need for at least one more slugger, it would amount to professional malpractice for Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski not to perform due diligence for the Red Sox and explore the trade fully.
Reached for comment about the Stanton report, Dombrowski made it clear via text that he could not speak about any trade talks the Red Sox are involved in but in a nod to the reality that everybody in baseball understands the Red Sox need a big bat, he indicated that the team will explore every option available to them.
