The Red Sox have placed outfielder Rusney Castillo on outright waivers, according to a report from MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman on Sunday. According to Heyman, Castillo was placed on waivers on Saturday and would clear them on Monday. The club has not confirmed the move.
By placing Castillo on outright waivers, the Red Sox would be able to remove him from their 40-man roster and keep him in the Minor Leagues if none of the other 29 teams claim him before he clears waivers. If a team were to claim Castillo -- which is not likely to happen -- it would take on the money he is owed.
