Red Sox' success vs. Blue Jays in September shouldn't be overlooked

TORONTO -- It’s the golden rule in baseball, good pitching beats good hitting, especially in the postseason. But on Monday night, when the Toronto Blue Jays out-slugged the Kansas City Royals in an 11-8 win to trim the Royals’ ALCS lead to 2-1, they reestablished their legitimacy as World Series contenders with another strategy.

North of the border, offense rules.

“That’s what we’re really all about,” said Jays manager John Gibbons.

This time it was former Reds ace Johnny Cueto who got roughed up by the bashing Blue Jays. Cueto had been acquired by the Royals in July to pitch in games like these, but the Jays tagged him for eight runs in two-plus innings of work.
