Koji Uehara gained entry to an exclusive club Tuesday night.
By pitching a perfect ninth inning, Uehara nailed down the Red Sox' come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins and became only the sixth pitcher ever to notch a 20-save season after his 40th birthday, joining Hoyt Wilhelm, Dennis Eckersley, Doug Jones, Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera.
Uehara hasn't allowed a run since June 24, a span of eight appearances. He's 20-for-22 in save opportunities and has a 2.61 ERA, less sparkling than his previous two seasons but more than solid enough to justify the Sox' decision to re-sign him to a two-year, $18 million contract after last season.
