The amount of information expected to be implanted into Blake Swihart’s mind over the coming days as the Red Sox’ starting catcher is enough to make a Ph.D. student dizzy.
After spending the last three weeks learning everything he could about the Red Sox’ uber-talented group of young starters in Triple-A Pawtucket, Swihart was summoned to the big league club Saturday morning and asked to switch gears, now tasked with learning an entirely new group of experienced pitchers.
“I feel ready,” he said. “I don’t think I’d be here if I didn't feel ready. Obviously they feel like I’m ready.
