Red Sox win cuts magic number to 2

There aren’t many deficits the 2017 Red Sox can’t overcome. And last night, they did it without any help from their starting pitcher.

Rick Porcello finished his disappointing 2017 season by allowing five runs in 52⁄3 innings, but the Sox hit their way through his ugly outing and knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays, 10-7, to keep their three-game lead over the New York Yankees intact with four games to play.

They can clinch the American League East title tonight with a win over the Astros and a Yankees loss to the Rays.

“Thank God our offense swung the bats the way they did, put up those runs,” Porcello said.
