CHICAGO -- A brief story, if you will allow, before we get back to Red Sox-White Sox:
Midway through spring training in 2010, I began covering the Red Sox for the Herald after five seasons of writing about the Philadelphia Phillies. I was on the job for a few days when I introduced myself to Don Orsillo and told him we had something in common: We both paid our dues in Binghamton, N.Y., Don as the play-by-play announcer for the New York Mets' Double-A club, me as the baseball writer for the local paper, our apprenticeships coming about five years apart.
