ST. PETERSBURG -- The Red Sox are unlikely to be making many in-game lineup changes this weekend.
The Sox sent corner infielder Travis Shaw down to Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday in attempt to freshen up their bullpen with the return of right-hander Matt Barnes and will be left with a short bench for Saturday's game.
“Given the number of innings we've pitched the last couple of outings out of the bullpen, we needed a fresh arm who can go multiple innings,” Sox manager John Farrell said.
Barnes had a 4.24 ERA in 17 innings out of relief with the Red Sox earlier this year.
