For the first time in team history, the Boston Red Sox will retire a pitcher's number. On July 28, the club will retire No. 45 in honor of Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez.

Martinez spent seven seasons with the Red Sox. During his tenure in Boston, Martinez won two Cy Young awards, was a four-time All-Star and posted a 2.52 ERA. He was also a key member of the 2004 team, which went on to win the World Series.
