DUNEDIN, Fla. — Red Sox third base coach Brian Butterfield, who had his right knee replaced in December, will not be on the field to start the season.
Bench coach Gary DiSarcina will coach third base and Butterfield will assume bench coach duties in the dugout.
Butterfield had a recent setback and the Sox want to make sure he has full mobility and less pain before returning to the coaching box (or, in Butterfield’s case, the general vicinity of the coaching box).
