Who would’ve thought that Joe Kelly, who had a 5.67 ERA when he was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket, would be the pitcher who challenges Pedro Martinez’s impressive mark of nine consecutive wins with the Red Sox in his magical 1999 season?
Kelly will take the mound against the Blue Jays on Wednesday night going for his eighth win in eight starts, passing both Curt Schilling (2004) and Josh Beckett (2007), who each went seven straight starts with a win during championship seasons in Boston.
Kelly is currently tied with Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta, who has also won his last seven starts, for the longest such streak this year.
