Red Sox ship out Henry Owens, bring up Sean O'Sullivan

NEW YORK -- The Red Sox sent Henry Owens down to Triple-A Pawtucket because he has not performed well as the fifth starter and, as manager John Farrell said, he “needs to go back and command his fastball with more consistency. ... the strike-throwing is the priority.”

On Thursday in Chicago, Owens walked six and recorded only nine outs. In three starts he has pitched 12.1 innings and has allowed 13 hits and walked 13. He has a 5.11 ERA.

The Sox recalled righty Sean O’Sullivan and Farrell called him “a candidate” to start Tuesday against Oakland.
