Red Sox set rotation, hope to make Yankees' series 'competitive'

The Red Sox may be out of contention, sitting 6 ½ games out of the Wild Card spot as of Wednesday, but they’re still planning on giving the Yankees a fair four-game series next week, one that could decide the fate of the American League East.

With Joe Kelly ruled out for the year with shoulder tightness, the Red Sox want to remain in a six-man rotation despite having only five starters. They plan on using their bullpen to start two or three games down the stretch, but they won’t do it against the Yankees.

Wade Miley will start Thursday’s series finale against the Rays, Rich Hill will start Friday against the Orioles and the Red Sox will then start a reliever on Saturday.
