The Red Sox acquired righthanded pitcher Matt McShane from the Pirates in exchange for Chase Shugart, who made his debut on the mound in 2024. In 8u2154 innings, Shugart carried a 4.15 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP for his six appearances. He also appeared in 36 games (five starts) for Triple A Worcester, going 6-2 with a 4.46 ERA, surrendering 65 hits and 35 earned runs in 70u2154 innings.
The Pirates drafted McShane, 22, in the 13th round of last year’s MLB draft out of Saint Joseph’s University. McShane also spent two seasons (2023-24) pitching for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League.
