Another member of the Ortiz family is officially in the Red Sox organization.
Boston selected David Ortiz’s son, D’Angelo, on Tuesday with their 19th-round pick (567th overall) in the 2024 MLB Draft.
D’Angelo Ortiz, 20, is a third baseman/outfielder who last played for Miami Dade Community College in Kendall, Florida.
A 6-foot-1, right-handed hitter, Ortiz appeared in 51 games for Miami Dade CC last season, batting .377 with one home run, seven doubles, and 35 RBI.
The younger Ortiz has been around the Red Sox for most of his childhood. He was born a little over three months before his father and the 2004 Red Sox erased an 86-year championship drought.
