FORT MYERS — Given what he’s recovering from and the grim history of players who have tried to do it before him, Tyler Thornburg could be excused for looking sad from time to time.
But Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he’s been impressed with Thornburg’s positive attitude this spring, despite the former Milwaukee Brewers closer trying to come back from surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome. He underwent the surgery last June and is questionable for Opening Day.
Today will be a “big day for him,” Cora said.
Thornburg finally will throw a bullpen session, his first since the surgery.
