NEW YORK -- The Red Sox entered the season hopeful that Brandon Workman would be done flipping back and forth between the bullpen and the starting rotation.
The plan was for Workman to pitch exclusively out of the ‘pen, where the Sox thought he could provide a powerful arm with an attacking mindset. Instead, Workman got hurt early in the year and has since been forced to undergo Tommy John surgery.
The Sox have been flip-flopping another one of their young pitching prospects, Matt Barnes, and will change his role yet again this season. Barnes is scheduled to start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday.
