Red Sox promote Dana LeVangie from bullpen coach to pitching coach

The Red Sox will have a coaching staff full of first-timers in 2018.

Dana LeVangie, the club’s bullpen coach the past five seasons, was promoted to pitching coach yesterday. Next year will be the former minor league catcher’s 27th in pro ball, all in the Sox organization.

The Red Sox now have a first-time pitching coach, a first-time hitting coach in Tim Hyers, who was the assistant hitting coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers the last two years, and a first-time manager in Alex Cora.

LeVangie was one of the only coaches on former manager John Farrell’s staff who was expected to return.
