The Red Sox have committed to a $1 million payment to supplement lost income of their part-time and seasonal workers because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has shut down Major League Baseball.
The announcement and details are expected later Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Sox said they have approximately 1,300 affected employees. Using the 1,300 figure, a $1 million bailout amounts to almost $770 per Red Sox employee.
“Over the past 48 hours, I have been approached by representatives of all 30 clubs to help assist the thousands of ballpark employees affected by the delay in the start of the Major League Baseball season,” Manfred said.
