One of the best parts of May from a baseball perspective is the month’s tendency to wash away the mirages of April. That backup catcher that went bananas and hit six home runs in the first week? They’ve probably cooled off. The fourth starter in the rotation who flirted with a no-hitter in his third start of the season? He’s probably not been as ace-like since. In general, after two months, we start to see the true talent of teams take shape. That’s not to say we have enough data to make wide-sweeping judgements, but we can start to believe in the numbers we’re seeing a bit more.
