While the 2020 season was undeniably a miserable one for Red Sox fans to watch unfold, with horrendous pitching taking that roster down basically as soon as the season began, the light at the end of that tunnel came the following summer with the draft. Picking number four, the Red Sox had a chance to take a system-changing kind of player, and things went about as well as anyone could have hoped for when Marcelo Mayer, who many believed was the top prospect in the entire class, fell to them. Unfortunately, he has not been able to play as much as we had hoped so far in his first full season of play, and now he’s going to be out for a bit longer.
