BOSTON -- The Red Sox placed left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez on the family medical leave list before Wednesday's game against the Royals. To fill Rodriguez's spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Marcus Walden from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Rodriguez, 25, is 3-0 with a 4.78 ERA this season, with the Red Sox winning each of his five starts. He most recently pitched Monday against the Royals but did not factor into the decision, allowing five runs with six strikeouts in four innings. Acquired by the Orioles in exchange for Andrew Miller on July 31, 2014, Rodriguez joins Rick Porcello as the only pitchers to make at least 20 starts for Boston in each of the last three seasons.
