The Boston Red Sox, already dealing with multiple pitching injuries, placed right-hander Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique Wednesday.
Whitlock, who is 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in four starts this season, left Tuesday's game after four innings in Boston's 10-7 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.
Left-hander Joe Jacques was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to fill Whitlock's roster spot.
Lucas Giolito and prospect Chris Murphy have had Tommy John surgery this spring and won't return until 2025.
