Red Sox pick up Clay Buchholz option

Clay Buchholz couldn’t throw a baseball for weeks, his arm on the fritz while he battled back from a flexor tendon strain that forced him to make far too many visits to orthopedic surgeon James Andrews for consultation.

Buchholz should have known the Red Sox would pick up his $13 million option for 2016, but he wasn’t taking anything for granted. It’s one of the reasons why he was so careful before he started throwing again in September, with no guaranteed job in 2016.

The worrying is done.

The Red Sox made it official yesterday, announcing they have exercised a contract option on Buchholz for next season.
