Last week, the Red Sox called Colten Brewer up as they went back to a three-man bench with an extra pitcher in the bullpen, with the righty expected to take on a mop up role. He made just one appearance before Brandon Workman triggered his opt out and the team decided to give him a chance. To make room on both the active roster and the 40-man, Brewer was designated for assignment, meaning any team could take him on their roster by putting in a waiver claim. It turns out no one pulled the trigger, as Brewer has apparently cleared waivers and was outrighted to Worcester.
