NEW YORK -- John Farrell was so upset that plate umpire Ron Kulpa had called Andrew Miller’s 3-and-1 pitch to David Ortiz a strike that after he got tossed for arguing about it, he made a gesture like he was throwing Kupla out of the game. Ortiz was so upset that Kulpa called the next pitch for strike three that after he was ejected for arguing it as he walked away, he came charging out of the dugout like a lunatic.
The crescendo of a dramatic ninth inning in the Yankees’ 3-2 win Friday night at Yankee Stadium was Andrew Miller’s strikeout of Ortiz with the bases loaded and one out.
